SPECIFIC SERVICES - PHYSIO

Long-term Back Pain

There is nothing fun about back pain. I've been successfully managing my own back pain for some 30 years now, so you'll get an empathetic ear from me!

Chances are you've already been popped, cracked, massaged and stretched, with various scans failing to identify the cause of your ongoing pain. It's frustrating isn't it?

My thorough assessment will identify all of the 'hidden clues' that will pave the way for successful rehabilitation

£70 for the initial 50-minute assessment

Post-op Rehabilitation

Early and effective Post-op Rehabilitation is absolutely critical in getting the most out of your surgery.

Surgery alone DOES NOT restore strength, balance, fitness, normal movement patterns or confidence.

I have all of the necessary rehab equipment and knowledge, to help you get back to normality and beyond!

£70 for the initial 50-minute assessment

Traumatic Injury Triage

Ruptured ligaments & tendons, torn cartilage and bone fractures, are just some of the injuries I have identified over the years, following a traumatic onset - falling, twisting the knee, pushing a caravan, being struck by a dog, all real-life cases!

Between 2008 - 2017, I was the lead therapist for the local Orthopaedic Triage Service, so if you want to know if further investigations and scans are needed, I can help you.

£70 for a thorough 50-minute Physiotherapy triage assessment.

Elderly Physio At Home

For some elderly individuals, getting into the clinic is simply not possible, so let me COME TO YOU!

Catering for the following;

* Balance & Falls

* Post-op Rehab

Lower Limb Arthritis Assessment

Arthritis is a common and yet poorly understood presentation, which DOES NOT mean you are destined for surgery, if managed well.

Keeping the joint's muscles STRONG is hugely beneficial for the arthritic joint.

If you have or suspect you have Hip or Knee arthritis, then allow me to assess and advise you on how best to manage the situation.

£70 for a 50-minute thorough assessment

The sooner I assess you the better, so book today!

Lower / Upper Limb Pain

For all other lower & upper limb related problems, this is the assessment you need.

Please bear in mind that I do not possess a 'magic couch' which I can pop you on and fix you in one session whilst you just lay there...I tried this for many years. It offers short-term 'feel good' results at best!

Exercise-rehabilitation based upon a thorough assessment is what makes for meaningful changes.

A bit about your Therapist & Trainer

Professionally

I have been a Healthcare Professional since 2004, when I graduated from the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, with my Physiotherapy degree.

Barring a short spell back in the NHS working as an Advanced Practitioner First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) during lock-down, I have been a self-employed private practitioner for some 19 years.

Between 2008-2017 my former clinic 'McBride Physiotherapy' provided the Orthopaedic Triage Service for North Lincs CCG out of clinics in Scunthorpe, Brigg & Epworth.

In 2013 I was awarded my Masters degree (MSc) in Musculoskeletal Medicine.

To help expand my services beyond traditional Physiotherapy, I am also a certified Triathlon & Running Coach, as well as a Strength & Conditioning Endurance Coach. These additional qualifications, along with my BSc (Hons) Sport Science degree from 2000, provide a depth and breadth of skills that benefit many.

Helping people to overcome their problems and achieve their respective goals is a genuine privilege for me and will never lose its appeal.

I am proud to be a Chartered Physiotherapist and fully embrace the ethical, moral and patient-centred values the profession endorses.

My 'Mission'...

As I continue to age, my personal interests have changed somewhat, which in the process has also influenced the Physio & Trainer I want to be, along with the people I want to help.

Gone are the days of wanting a diary full of injured runners and sportspeople. Instead, my focus has gradually shifted to helping those who I truly believe I can make a big difference with;

* Helping people with long-term back pain

* Helping people with essential post-op rehab

* Helping women and the elderly to strength train for enhanced health and well-being

* Helping those take the fight to the ageing process for a fulfilled and independent life

And Finally...

* Strength is the currency of life - ignore it at your peril

* You're NEVER too old to get stronger

* Long-term back pain CAN be improved, so long as you are an ACTIVE PARTICIPANT in the rehab and not solely laying on a couch having things done to you!

I LOOK FORWARD TO HELPING YOU!

Ian

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Please contact me at ian@mcbridephysioandperformance.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

    Absolutely not! You are self-referring to me with no GP referral needed. If, following your assessment I believe your GP needs to be involved then I can make contact with them with your agreement.

    I no longer take on under 18s I'm afraid. My advice would be to seek help from your GP.

    You pay via the online booking form on the website - payment secures your appointment.

    Alternatively you can e-mail me ian@mcbridephysioandperformance.co.uk and arrange your appointment that way - a received BACS payment then secures your appointment

    No. All further appointments will be paid in advance via the online booking form or alternatively as a BACS payment - payment secures your appointment

    This is a difficult question to answer as the number of sessions may differ considerably based upon the individual, their presentation and their particular goal(s) with Physiotherapy. I will of course discuss with you the anticipated number of sessions needed following the assessment.

    Whilst I'm an experienced and advanced level practitioner keen to get you better as quickly as possible, I didn't graduate from Hogwarts school of wizardry! If you're after a one-hit wonder then I can warmly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etviGf1uWlg ....enjoy!

    Whilst that might sadly be the experience of some, you will certainly NOT be discharged with a generic sheet of exercises from me!

    Physiotherapists treat backs too!! Given that approximately 90% of the population will experience back pain at some point in their life, then in my 22 years as a Physiotherapist I have successfully assessed and treated a LOT of patients with back pain.

    If you witnessed me working not knowing my profession, you could mistake me for a chiropractor at times as I sometimes use 'spinal manipulations' (called 'adjustments' by chiropractors). However, I also use other methods of hands-on treatment as well as exercise-therapy.

    Well, that's entirely your prerogative of course but for a speedy and expert level of assessment then I'd recommend an assessment with me. My advanced level of expertise will be able to determine if your problem is something I can help you with or not. If not I can then liaise with your GP to assist in ongoing management.

    Of course!

    Loose clothing is always preferable as I will be assessing how your body moves and so tight clothing will interfere with this.

    For a lower limb complaint then a pair of shorts / loose trousers that will roll up would be advised.

    For a foot & ankle complaint then I will be asking you to remove your sock...it always amazes me when people are surprised by this, although typically it's because they haven't painted their nails!

    For a back complaint I will need to actually look at your back and so again loose clothing will help.

    For a shoulder complaint then a t-shirt / vest top would be hugely helpful.

    If you're at all unsure then please e-mail me at ian@mcbridephysioandperformance.co.uk

    Sadly not. The clinic is just me and I never intend to employ anyone EVER again!!

    To the right of the grey entrance doors is a bank of buzzers.

    Press my button (Suite 4b McBride Physio & Performance) and wait for me to buzz you in.

    Once in reception you can sit and wait till I come and collect you at your appointed time.

    Yes you can. Please ask me about this following your first session.

    I have intentionally NOT registered with private healthcare companies as invariably they refuse to pay our full fees. I can of course provide you with a receipt on headed paper / e-mail for you to then claim your costs back

    NO! A Physiotherapist is VERY different to the aforementioned professions. Even the Sports Therapy degree does NOT allow a sports therapist to make a clinical diagnosis. This can be confirmed by contacting the Sports therapy Association.  https://www.thesta.co.uk/site/index.php
